01 Introduction
BannedAppDetector ("the App", "we", "our") is a free Android security utility developed to help users identify and remove applications that have been banned, restricted, or flagged by the Government of India and other cybersecurity authorities.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user. By downloading or using BannedAppDetector, you agree to the terms described in this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the App and discontinue use.
Our Core Principle
Your data stays on your device. BannedAppDetector performs all security analysis locally. We never upload your personal information, app lists, or scan results to any external server.
02 Information We Collect
2.1 Data Collected for App Functionality
BannedAppDetector collects only the minimum data necessary to perform its core security function:
| Data Type | What Is Collected | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Installed App List | Package names (e.g., com.example.app) | To compare against our restricted app database and generate a Safety Score |
| App Version Codes | Version numbers of installed apps | To detect outdated or rebranded versions of flagged apps |
| Scan Timestamps | Date and time of each scan | To maintain your Historical Logs within the App |
| Android OS Version | Android version only (e.g., Android 13) | To ensure compatibility and accurate scanning results |
2.2 Data We Never Collect
The following data is never accessed, stored, or transmitted by the App:
03 How We Use Information
The data accessed by BannedAppDetector is used exclusively for:
- Security Scanning: Matching installed app package names against our restricted app database to identify banned, flagged, or high-risk applications.
- Safety Score Generation: Calculating your device's Safety Score based on detected threats — entirely on-device.
- Historical Logs: Storing a local timeline of scan results and app events on your device for your own reference.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Detecting newly installed apps in the background and alerting you if a flagged app is installed.
- Database Updates: Downloading updated restricted app lists from our server to keep your protection current.
All Processing Is On-Device
Your installed app list is never uploaded to our servers for analysis. The scan happens entirely on your phone using a locally stored copy of our restricted app database.
04 Data Storage & Retention
- Local Storage Only: All scan results, Historical Logs, and app data are stored exclusively on your Android device — not synced to any cloud or external server.
- No Account or Profile: BannedAppDetector requires no user account or sign-up. No user profile is created or stored by us.
- Retention Period: Local data is retained on your device until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
- User Control: You can clear all locally stored data at any time via: Android Settings → Apps → BannedAppDetector → Clear Data.
05 Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party.
5.1 Database Update Server
The App connects to our secure update server solely to download the latest restricted app database. This connection transmits no personal data about you or your device and is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
5.2 No Advertising or Analytics
BannedAppDetector contains no advertisements and is not integrated with any advertising SDK, Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, or any third-party tracking or analytics service.
5.3 Legal Disclosure
We may disclose information only if required under applicable Indian law (e.g., under a valid court order or directive from a competent authority), and only to the extent legally mandated.
06 Android Permissions
BannedAppDetector requests only the permissions necessary for its security functions:
| Permission | Android Name | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Query All Packages | QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES | Required on Android 11+ to read installed app package names for scanning |
| Internet | INTERNET | Required to download updated restricted app database from our server |
| Receive Boot Completed | RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Allows real-time monitoring to restart automatically after device reboot |
| Foreground Service | FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Enables the background scan service to run reliably on Android 8+ |
| Package Install/Remove | PACKAGE_ADDED / PACKAGE_REMOVED | Detects when a new app is installed or uninstalled for real-time threat alerts |
Permissions Not Requested
The App does NOT request permissions for: Camera, Microphone, Location, Contacts, SMS, Call Logs, Accessibility Services, or Read/Write External Storage.
07 Children's Privacy
BannedAppDetector is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since no personal data is stored on our end, there is no risk of children's data being retained by us. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise their children's device usage.
08 Security
- All communications between the App and our database server use HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher.
